Love Must Be a Passion
Fr. Jordi Rivero

We can only be the lovers God created us to be if Christ becomes the passion of our life. His Passion is love that takes Him to the Cross. Without entering such passion we may be nice people but never fully alive. Passionate love holds nothing back from God and always wants to give more of self. Passion expands the heart to greater desire for God's love. Christ reveals Himself to such souls to depths beyond imagination. They in turn become icons of Christ. Nothing can separate them from Love. The Cross becomes wisdom, a chance to love more.

Few enter this passion because few want to know the truth about themselves. Christ must be allowed to dismantle our fantasies about God, about religion and about ourselves. We must let Him touch our wounds and uncover sins we have hidden under justifications and excuses. Passion becomes real only for the few who are willing to suffer the pain of self-knowledge and gratefully seek to go ever deeper in the process of conversion. Those who enter this passion we call "saints"
