Reading IS 49:8-15
Thus says the LORD:
In a time of favor I answer you,
on the day of salvation I help you;
and I have kept you and given you as a covenant to the people,
To restore the land
and allot the desolate heritages,
Saying to the prisoners: Come out!
To those in darkness: Show yourselves!
Along the ways they shall find pasture,
on every bare height shall their pastures be.
They shall not hunger or thirst,
nor shall the scorching wind or the sun strike them;
For he who pities them leads them
and guides them beside springs of water.
I will cut a road through all my mountains,
and make my highways level.
See, some shall come from afar,
others from the north and the west,
and some from the land of Syene.
Sing out, O heavens, and rejoice, O earth,
break forth into song, you mountains.
For the LORD comforts his people
and shows mercy to his afflicted.
But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me;
my Lord has forgotten me."
Can a mother forget her infant,
be without tenderness for the child of her womb?
Even should she forget,
I will never forget you.

I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord;

Gospel JN 5:17-30
Jesus answered the Jews:
"My Father is at work until now, so I am at work."
For this reason they tried all the more to kill him,
because he not only broke the sabbath
but he also called God his own father, making himself equal to God.
Jesus answered and said to them,
"Amen, amen, I say to you, the Son cannot do anything on his own,
but only what he sees the Father doing;
for what he does, the Son will do also.
For the Father loves the Son
and shows him everything that he himself does,
and he will show him greater works than these,
so that you may be amazed.
For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life,
so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes.
Nor does the Father judge anyone,
but he has given all judgment to the Son,
so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father.
Whoever does not honor the Son
does not honor the Father who sent him.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word
and believes in the one who sent me
has eternal life and will not come to condemnation,
but has passed from death to life.
Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here
when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God,
and those who hear will live.
For just as the Father has life in himself,
so also he gave to the Son the possession of life in himself.
And he gave him power to exercise judgment,
because he is the Son of Man.
Do not be amazed at this,
because the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs
will hear his voice and will come out,
those who have done good deeds
to the resurrection of life,
but those who have done wicked deeds
to the resurrection of condemnation.
"I cannot do anything on my own;
I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just,
because I do not seek my own will
but the will of the one who sent me."

Is 49, 8-15
Esto dice el Señor:
"En el tiempo de la misericordia te escuché,
en el día de la salvación te auxilié.
Yo te formé y te he destinado para que seas alianza del pueblo:
para restaurar la tierra,
para volver a ocupar los hogares destruidos,
para decir a los prisioneros: 'Salgan',
y a los que están en tinieblas: 'Vengan a la luz'.
Pastarán de regreso a lo largo de todos los caminos,
hallarán pasto hasta en las dunas del desierto.
No sufrirán hambre ni sed,
no los afligirá el sol ni el calor,
porque el que tiene piedad de ellos
los conducirá a los manantiales.
Convertiré en caminos todas las montañas
y pondrán terraplén a mis calzadas.
Miren: éstos vienen de lejos;
aquéllos, del norte y del poniente,
y aquellos otros, de la tierra de Senim.
Griten de alegría, cielos; regocíjate, tierra;
rompan a cantar, montañas,
porque el Señor consuela a su pueblo
y tiene misericordia de los desamparados.
Sión había dicho: 'El Señor me ha abandonado,
el Señor me tiene en el olvido'.
¿Puede acaso una madre olvidarse de su creatura
hasta dejar de enternecerse por el hijo de sus entrañas?
Aunque hubiera una madre que se olvidara,
yo nunca me olvidaré de ti",
dice el Señor todopoderoso.

El Señor es compasivo y misericordioso,
lento para enojarse y generoso para perdonar.
Bueno es el Señor para con todos
y su amor se extiende a todas sus creaturas.

El Señor es siempre fiel a sus palabras,
y bondadoso en todas sus acciones.
Da su apoyo el Señor al que tropieza
Y al agobiado alivia.
R. El Señor es compasivo y misericordioso.
Siempre es justo el Señor en sus designios
y están llenas de amor todas sus obras.
No está lejos de aquellos que lo buscan;
muy cerca está el Señor, de quien lo invoca.

Yo soy la resurrección y la vida, dice el Señor;
el que cree en mí, aunque haya muerto, vivirá.

Evangelio
Jn 5, 17-30
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los judíos (que lo perseguían por hacer curaciones en sábado): "Mi Padre trabaja siempre y yo también trabajo". Por eso los judíos buscaban con mayor empeño darle muerte, ya que no sólo violaba el sábado, sino que llamaba Padre suyo a Dios, igualándose así con Dios.
Entonces Jesús les habló en estos términos: "Yo les aseguro: El Hijo no puede hacer nada por su cuenta y sólo hace lo que le ve hacer al Padre; lo que hace el Padre también lo hace el Hijo. El Padre ama al Hijo y le manifiesta todo lo que hace; le manifestará obras todavía mayores que éstas, para asombro de ustedes. Así como el Padre resucita a los muertos y les da la vida, así también el Hijo da la vida a quien él quiere dársela. El Padre no juzga a nadie, porque todo juicio se lo ha dado al Hijo, para que todos honren al Hijo, como honran al Padre. El que no honra al Hijo tampoco honra al Padre.
Yo les aseguro que, quien escucha mi palabra y cree en el que me envió, tiene vida eterna y no será condenado en el juicio, porque ya pasó de la muerte a la vida.
Les aseguro que viene la hora, y ya está aquí, en que los muertos oirán la voz del Hijo de Dios, y los que la hayan oído vivirán. Pues así como el Padre tiene la vida en sí mismo, también le ha dado al Hijo tener la vida en sí mismo; y le ha dado el poder de juzgar, porque es el Hijo del hombre.
No se asombren de esto, porque viene la hora en que todos los que yacen en la tumba oirán mi voz y resucitarán: los que hicieron el bien para la vida; los que hicieron el mal, para la condenación. Yo nada puedo hacer por mí mismo. Según lo que oigo, juzgo; y mi juicio es justo, porque no busco mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió".
